They farmed in Frankville Twp. and took great pride in the new home and barn they built, also in their fields, orchard and farm animals. Even today when their grandchildren see the barn, they remember their aunts at the separator, but rarely in the barn. They remember stories of the accidental death of their great-uncle in the raising of the barn and of their grandfather's accident when backing his new Model T out of the barn. Their children attended the Pagin School and also Norwegian School. They were confirmed in the Norwegian language at Glenwood Lutheran Church. They were a bilingual family. Their sons continued the Norwegian craftsmanship tradition of working with wood, making furniture and other domestic articles. They made good use of the walnut trees on the farm.
Andrew and Caroline had 3 sons and 3 daughters: Oscar Adolph (1897-1982); Alfred Cornelius (1905-1982); Andrew Carleton (27 Mar 1909-17 Nov 1976); Esther Antoinette (1898-1991); Anna Charlotte (1900-1990) (Mrs. Ernest Martinson); and Emelia Rosela (1903-1954). All are buried in Glenwood Cemetery except Carleton who is buried in Phelps Cemetery. Emelia and Charlotte died of cancer. The cause of Esther’s death was diabetes. Carleton and Dorothy then took a 170 passenger hydrofoil torpedo boat down the Sognefjord to Bergen. With their Eurailpass they went through the mountains to Oslo and by ferry to Copenhagen, Denmark, then by rail to Hamburg, Germany. They toured many countries where Andy served in WWII with the 8th Armored Division.
Andrew and Caroline’s granddaughters looked forward to farm vacations, holidays, and especially threshing days. They enjoyed the Norwegian delicacies that their aunts made - lefse, fattigmand, flatbrod, fruktsuppe, kringle, krumkake, rosettes, sandbakkels and spritz. The granddaughters appreciated their aunts' quilts, afghans, sewing and handwork which they tried to emulate. They appreciated their interest in the library and their books.
